This painting by Hermann Reimer combines figurative representation with a multilayered, surreal pictorial space. At its center, a couple is seated within a richly colored interior. While the female figure is rendered with clarity and precision, the male figure partially dissolves into a transparent grid-like structure—a visual metaphor for memory, identity, intimacy, and distance. The interior is characterized by geometric ornaments, plants, light, and symbolic elements that merge different layers of reality into a single composition. An open window creates a striking contrast between the calm sky and the intricate, richly detailed surroundings. Bold color contrasts, together with the interplay of precise rendering and freely expressive brushwork, imbue the work with the dynamic tension that is characteristic of Hermann Reimer's artistic style.
