About the Artist Max Grote
Max Grote (*2003) is a young painter who lives and works in Hamburg. From 2022 to 2024, he studied at the Weißensee School of Art and Design Berlin and has continued his studies since 2024 at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg (HFBK Hamburg) under Jorinde Voigt. Grote paints large-scale oil paintings. Characteristic of his work is the interplay of an Old Masterly painterly approach with a contemporary perspective: dark, dramatic scenes, equestrian figures, full-body studies, portraits, and, above all, self-portraits. He repeatedly places himself within the image as the protagonist of his works, at times assuming mythologically charged roles. In 2026, his group of works Vanitasparade was presented as part of the Made in Potsdam festival at Kunstraum Potsdam.
